Physical Education

The overall aim of the Physical Education programme is to develop those physical and social skills which will encourage pupils to adopt a healthy lifestyle both in and out of school. We hope this will continue into adult life.

A broad and balanced P.E. programme is delivered which reflects National Curriculum criteria, the main objectives being:

(i) To encourage safe participation in all physical activities.

(ii) To promote physical fitness and a positive attitude towards health.

(iii) To develop positive social and sporting attitudes.

(iv) To contribute to the physical development of each pupil through the promotion of skills and competence in a range of physical activities.
Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in the following activities through the programmes of study:- Hurling, Football, Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Basketball, Soccer, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cross Country, Athletics, Softball, Tennis and health-related Physical Education.

Facilities used within the school include the school assembly hall, hard court areas and a well equipped gymnasium.

The P.E. department also makes use of local leisure centres, Mallusk Playing Fields, the Cliftonville Road Gaelic pitch, Barnett’s Park, Cavehill Country Park and the Antrim Forum Athletics Track.
