Lego League

First Lego League (FLL) is an exciting and innovative STEM challenge for teams of young people that encourages an interest in real world issues and also helps develop key skills that are crucial for their future careers.

The challenge encourages a cross curricular approach using Programming and Control, Design and Technology, Mathematics, Research, Presentation Skills, Strategic Thinking and Teamwork to achieve the aims of the challenge.

The competition was first launched in Northern Ireland back in 2008. St Patrick’s College has been involved from this date, winning ‘Robot Performance’ in 2008 and coming third in 2009. We have also been fortunate enough to gain sponsorship from Queen’s University, Belfast that helps us participate in FLL.

The theme for 2010 is, ‘Body Forward’ and has been the most challenging topic to date. Eighteen schools from across Northern Ireland will compete on the 1st December in W5, with the out-right winners travelling to England for the UK stage of the competition. Team Bearnageeha III consists of five Year 11 pupils: Adrian Naworol, Martin Gibson, Peter Mooney, Hugh Grieve and Conor Deighan.
