Soccer has had a rich history in St Patrick’s under the previous leadership of Mr Peter McLean and currently with Mr Gavin McGuigan.

All the boys who represent the school play in two competitions: the Belfast Schools Cup and Northern Ireland Schools Cup. The later has recently received major sponsorship with ‘Umbro’ providing much needed revenue, launching a new website and bringing the schools-boy game across the North to a new, more recognised level.

Many of our past representatives, to whom we are extremely grateful for their hard work, skill, determination and enthusiasm on the pitch, have progressed to higher levels within the local community and beyond. Some of these players are now playing soccer at amateur, semi-pro and Irish League levels, while others have advanced to national level and now play at high levels in England and beyond, the most notable being Tony Kane and Martin Donnelly, who have now returned to the Irish League.

Our current crop of players within the College, also have the potential to develop further and become successful in soccer. Many of these players are currently on trial with various Premier League, Championship and Irish League teams. These future stars include: Rory Hale, Joseph Conway, Daniel Magee, Eamon Connor, Ryan McCloskey, Kevin Lynch and Cormac Mullan.

With the development of our new 3G pitch, the expectations and desire of all participants will hopefully rise to a new level, bringing success to the College at various levels. It is our hope and expectations that we continually challenge for trophies at all age group levels.
